On September 11, 2001 I was working at our deli; The Market on Brando's Alley and witnessed with horror the attack and colapse of the WTC with the rest of the world.
In 1975, right after moving to NYC and getting a job driving a taxi, the observastion deck of WTC 2 opened. As a way of getting tourists to the site, taxi drivers were allowed to go to the top free of charge.
For the entire year of 1976 I would go to the top of that building at least once a week. In snow storms, rain showers, sunny days, early mornings and late nights. I was in love with those buildings and that observation deck. On sunny, peaceful, calm days they even opened the outside walking deck. You got on an escalator and were brought out onto the top of the building where it was quiet and beautiful. The visions of NYC and surroundings were breathtaking.
When those buildings came down it was like having a piece of my soul torn out of me. Along with the rest of planet earth, life changed dramatically.
I have kept track of the progress of the rebuilding of the WTC Site since 2001. Here is a youtube video of its progress so far.
Please say a prayer for those and their families who lost their lives that day.
